3X Amsterdam

En: Even though I don't get fall break, my off day (read: lecturefree day) was spend well. I got on the train early accompanied by my mom and sister, this time not to go to university, but to walk through the streets of Amsterdam. Having arrived at Central station Amsterdam, the first thing we do is go to Illy (pretty much next to the Victoria Hotel). As soon as we walk in, a huge piece of art above the central table pops in sight. The spiral formed thing with cups and plates stands out in the small room and also the counter is decorated with small cups. As we get our coffee and salted chocolate chip cookies, first things first, we get our camera's out -"Let's get grandma jealous girls"-. Illy is a place you can sit down for a moment and relax. And because it's located so close to the central station, it's perfectly reachable.

En: As our coffee cups are empty, we dress warm again and get on the move. We walk toward the Kalverstraat and soon my mom has spotted a shop we definitely have to visit. A few weeks ago, she bought shoes at Clarks and she is really enthusiastic. Clarks designs and sells shoes in which are used some new technologies that improve comfort (I do agree, it does). If you first try on the shoes, it'll feel a little uncomfortable because of the stiffness of the leather (that's really a no-go for me because I didn't want to buy leather products anymore, but since those shoes are super comfortable, pretty and durable, I let go my intentions for once), the leather will form like the shape of your feet after one week of wearing. Definitely a pro!
After filling some small bags with new clothing, we get on the tram for lunch. It's almost two 'o clock when we arrive at Mook pancakes. After reading Chantal's article on Mook, I got hungry and showed some of the pictures to my mom who immediately agreed to go there for lunch. And really, they didn't disappoint. What a wonderful place! The whitened wooden walls decorated with copper lamps and the scaffolding filled with plants combined with the present, but not too loud music formed a pleasant sphere. Fun fact: if you listen to your surrounding you'll hear more English than Dutch (also in the kitchen). All together, the surroundings and staff made sure you will have a great time there. Mook serves diverse, original smoothies, warm drinks and AMAZING pancakes. The menu offers pancakes with original combinations of fruit, chocolate, peanut butter, yogurt, bacon, cheese and more. Conclusion: Mook is a wonderful place to relax and fill your stomach with all kinds of deliciousness :)

En: Having eaten enough we walk back to the station. The small pathways lead us over and along the somewhat famous canals of Amsterdam, which are super pretty now the treas get the colors of fall. (as you can see in the beginning of this post)
